In today’s construction environment, a primary concern for prefabricators is ensuring enough material is always available for flexible production, while factoring in on-site delivery changes and avoiding the pitfalls of over ordering. A material shortage during the production of time-sensitive orders can lead to costly delays, bottlenecks, and idle labor. Offsight has made major enhancements to our
material handling and inventory control capabilities for prefabricators, who specialize in a design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) process. In this Prefab Innovations post, we explore how Offsight has incorporated additional functionality for just-in-time inventory management including a new materials forecasting algorithm that empowers customers to plan ahead, optimize stock levels, and keep production running without interruption.
Improved DfMA Materials Control
Offsight’s Bill of Materials (BOM) dashboard now supports many highly customized BOMs that can be linked to each individual product or design. Prefabricators using a Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) process—often tasked with assembling thousands of unique products, such as panels with varying layouts by floor and location—can now automatically create and upload thousands of BOMs with ease. These can be linked directly to the production schedule, making them instantly accessible to shop floor operators by the specific product they’re working on.
